Movie: Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

Synopsis: Lets take an example. A is married to B. C is married to D. On the day C is to marry D, she has pre-marital jitters. She meets A meets and he gives her some convincing gyaan on marriage and life and thus gets C gets married to D. A has an accident that very day and it changes his life. Fast forward and many more scenes, parks, dances, coffees, flowers, autumn leaves, sarees, suits, trains and tearfilled hand-kerchiefs later, A and C have an affair. Their elders come to know about it and shed some more tears. Fast forward a bit and A and C’s spouses are enlightened with this infidelity fact and decide to get separated. Fast forward, B gets proposed, she refuses. D gets married to a phirang. B and D ‘plead’ with C to go and get A before he gets on a train to move to another country. A and C then meet again at the station and finally (apparently) they lived happily ever after.

The End.

That’s the story of KANK. I don’t like spoilers so I had to fast forward most of my narration for you. Anyway,
A=Shah Rukh Khan
B=Preity Zinta
C=Rani Mukherjee
D=Abhishek Bachhan

I would describe it as a complete hindi movie with an unusual topic and treatment for a change. Infact, I found it interesting too but it was depressing also. At sometimes, it seemed like a drag. Overall, not bad….really but anymore of the confusion and you would have thought that it was one of those ‘K’ serials on TV.

Amitabh Bachhan – My reverence for him has grown. Even with his casanova image, he was superb. Ofcourse, he played the role of doting father with class – as always.

Abhishek Bachhan – He was too cute. Only that he destroys a lot of furniture everytime he gets upset. Social Bird. Was good husband material in the movie. Loved the way he danced. I think I like people with a stubble ;)

Rani Mukherjee – My sympathies were with her. She was confused about marriage, was potrayed as a boring, non sexy person and a teacher by profession. Loves to discuss things.

Shah Rukh Khan – Mr Grumpy! Ex football player and current football coach with an arrogant disposition. Careless enough to mess up the streets with paper and chewing gum. Gives a lot of gyaan and keeps asking tough questions. I liked him only in the song Mitwaa.

Preity Zinta – I hated her make up. She looked old and the make up made it worse. She played the character of a super successful and super busy wife/mom. Loved the way she slapped Shah Rukh Khan :D

Kirron Kher – Friendly saas, mom and daadi…all in one. Would have liked to see more of her with Big B.

Arjun Rampal – Boss of a fashion magazine and keeps hitting at Preity Zinta. I like his Greek God chisled face. Eye candy!

John Abraham – Ultra cute DJ [ I just had to mention him :D ]

As I said, overall not bad probably because I had expected worse. Watch the movie atleast once. A sensitive topic handled well with care. The actors do full justice to their respective roles. If you still don’t like it then atleast you will be humming ‘Rock and Roll Soniye’ on your way out. But I am yet to make up my mind on the baseline theme – Is it right to continue with something that you don’t love or leave it to follow your heart? It would just equally mean to decide between carrying the burden of an unsuccessful relationship or breaking free and letting go. I am thinking about it and looking for answers – should find them someday, soon.

Samundar ke lutere?!?

July 30, 2006 · 2 Comments

Pirates of the Caribbean Wallpaper

I heard on the radio about the Hindi version of Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest being released as ‘Samundar ke lutere – Murdey ka khazana‘. Yipes! How ridiculously, stupidly, technically correct the translation is! Anyway, I am yet to see it and from what I’ve heard from friends, it is an awesome movie – just like the 1st part (some liked it even better). Here’s my current wallpaper (thanx to Google) – apt for this season.

Warning: If you are using the licensed version of XP then this could give you some shocks because of the blatant display of piracy.

Krrishhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…

June 25, 2006 · 2 Comments

I went for Krrish today. This is one movie that I really wanted to avoid going to. But apparently, there were extra tickets to a nearby multiplex and I was just at home doing nothing. So, i thought – might as well – and what’s the harm anyways. I WAS WRONG!

Krrish is a sequel of India’s first ‘alien movie’ – ‘Koi..Mil Gaya’. Krishna is the super gifted son of Rohit who was killed after he worked for Siddharth Arya and he tries to look in the future and kill Krishna too who loves Priya (nka Chopra) who stays in Singapore and whom Dadi has asked to get back to their chota sa seclusive village and ………………oh! shut up! shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Enough! I am not going to tell you anymore of the story. How I spent those 3 hours watching the movie is still suprising. The movie was very boring. Hrithik just kept on jumping on the mountains of Manali and the streets of Singapore. I think if my friend Deep had to see a cockroach, he’d be able to accomplish such feats with the same amount of ease. [Ok, I get scared of those creepy crawlies too but this is my blog and I choose whom I want to hammer ;-) ]. The story was abolutely predictable and seemed like a drag. I came out of the auditorium with a bad headache and the guilt of wasting a beautiful Sunday afternoon and choosing jumping jack Hrithik instead of my TV! The only thing that I liked were the SFX used – quite good.

We had recliner seats so I could sleep with my eyes open. Koi..mil gaya was much better than the sequel. Sequels don’t really do well, do they?
